Guest Resource Services recently had the privilege to implement its first blended learning program.

Training of a skills program consisting of four unit standards were facilitated to 96 learners to one of our clients.

Due to the size of the group Guest Resource Services decided to divide the group of 96 learners into smaller facilitation groups to better manage, support and guide each individual learner. Facilitators made use of electronic and paper based resources to facilitate the training sessions, making the experience for the learners well balanced and personalised.

While learners still received their training material and completed their portfolios on paper, facilitation was presented making use mostly of Zoom sessions.

Although still a new concept to get used to, the advantages of bringing technology into the process of facilitation are endless.

All facilitation sessions could be made available in video format for the convenience of the learners to refer back to and assist them in successfully completing the learning program.

Learners received support from their facilitators and fellow learners on WhatsApp, and assistance to any query was always just a message away.

The training program has since come to an end and submitted learner portfolios are currently in the process of being assessed.

We are looking forward to a positive outcome, and hope to be able to present many more blended learning programs to current and new clients going forward.

Although still in the early stages of blended learning, and continuously learning and improving ourselves, we look forward to continue with the new way of facilitation making use of blended learning to enrich the lives of people around South Africa.
